Etymology

Neutrois had limited usage prior to 2009;[2] however it has been suggested that the word was coined as early as 1995 by Holly A. Burnham and derived from the Latin root neuter and French trois, meaning "three". [3][4] It was included under the definition of "transgender" in the 2005 book Just Add Hormones: An Insider's Guide ti the Transsexual Experience.[5] The plural form of neutrois is the same as the singular.[3]

For example, this section can mention things specific to this identity's community, like ace rings to asexuals, or miscellaneous things that people of this group have achieved and contributed to that do not fall into the other sections, or be left blank.

History

In 1995, an individual known as Holly A. Burnham coined the term "neutrois"; however, the first dated use of it occured in a Google Group thread in 1996.[6] In February 2014, Facebook included Neutrois as one of the 50 identity options available.[7]

Flag

A white, green and black flag.

The neutrois flag, made by a group of non-binary Brazilians in 2014.

Include a pride flag if one exists. High quality PNGs are preferred. Do not add flags that are specifically for sub-groups in the article. This section should also explain the meaning behind the flag's design and who created it. Sources are required for this section.

Distinction

Agender

Agender and neutrois both involve gender neutrality, but neutrois has a stronger emphasis on such.[8] There are multiple definitions for being Neutrois, which may not align with being Agender, such as having a distinct neutral gender identity. [source needed]
